What's the difference?

Direct Seller

This permit is required for the sale of goods at any location other than a permanent place of business. A direct seller shall include any person selling or displaying goods from a stand or a designated location on City right-of-way.

The direct seller permit is assigned to a location, not a person, so the license is good for any person working that specific stand/location. Applicants looking to sell at Lambeau Field shall obtain a solicitor permit as they are required to walk around while engaging in sales, not stay affixed to one location.

Cost

$100 per month, or $350 for the annual permit expiring at the end of the calendar year (December 31, 2xxx).

You must include a copy of government-issued picture I.D. with your application. We suggest you appear in person for this license to ensure you are applying for the correct license and engaging in legal sales in accordance with City ordinance. View Section 10-270.

Solicitor

A license is required for any person who goes from house-to-house, place-to-place, or street-to-street selling or taking orders for goods or offering to sell or take orders for goods. Any person who goes from house-to-house, place-to-place, street-to-street, or in a public place solicits monetary donations. Sales in city parks are prohibited in accordance with Section 28-4.

This license is specific to a person, not a company, so each individual engaging in solicitation must acquire a solicitor permit.

Cost

$25 per month, or $100 for the annual permit expiring at the end of the calendar year (December 31, 2xxx).

Additional Information

You must include a copy of government-issued picture I.D. or Driver's License, a passport-size photo, and a background check including any other state(s) that you have resided in, or any state that you have an arrest record in (Felony, Misdemeanor, or Ordinance Violation Convictions and Pending Cases). You will be providing the printout of the background check, or a clearance letter (stating no records found) from each state.
