Right of Way Violation Suspensions
D.O.T. "RIGHT OF WAY" VIOLATION SUSPENSIONS/MANDATORY TRAFFIC SAFETY SCHOOL FOR OFFENSES COMMITTED ON OR AFTER DECEMBER 2, 2017
2017 Wisconsin Act 105 expands the sanctions upon conviction of "right of way" violations (and the list of those violations) - increasing penalties for several offenses if death or great bodily harm resulted from the offense and requiring attendance at a "right of way" traffic safety course in order to avoid a mandatory suspension if there was no injury or a minor injury {"bodily harm")) or obtain reinstatement after a mandatory suspension for an offense resulting in death or great bodily harm. The expanded list of offenses triggering suspensions and mandatory course attendance effective December 2, 2017 is:

D.O.T MANDATORY SUSPENSIONS
- NO INJURY/MINOR INJURY: Suspension for not more than five years if course not successfully completed within six months of DOT order to attend. May reinstate after successful course completion.
- GREAT BODILY HARM: Mandatory three-month suspension. May not reinstate until course is successfully completed.
- DEATH: Mandatory nine-month suspension. May not reinstate until course is successfully completed.
